ItaSaku writings

Rewritten on the 3rd of March, 2007

I was getting quite sick of this essay and it's flames because as said by someone else, it's flamed to hell and praised to heaven and everybody has a different interpretation on it. So I wanted to delete it and then decided against it.

This essay was created for authors who would like to write a believable story. One that can fit into the storyline of Naruto. Of course, every fiction is different and every fiction will not resemble the truth as Kishimoto has planned [unless you have psychic abilities], but authors can try to make it somewhat canon and that's why this essay is here. To plainly tell you which things are OOC and will never happen in the original story line and some tips to help you build up the characters.

I don't care if you call me an elitist bitch, or if you hate me or lose all respect for me afterwards. A lot of people do find this essay helpful and my help concerning fictions has been requested numerous times by various people, so I figured I'd write it out and put it on LJ.

Also, please remember these are my guidelines. People have been asking me how I develop characters, what kind of things I keep in mind and this entire essay is basically about the workings of my mind when it comes to ItaSaku. By no means at all is this an essay to write ItaSaku, because nobody truly has the answers how to write a fanfiction that everybody likes.

If you hate it, so be it, leave a comment if you must and go on. If you like it, I accomplished my goal. That's all.

EDIT NUMBER 2: GUYS, THIS ESSAY WAS WRITTEN 2 YEARS AGO. YES, IT ISN'T RIGHT ANYMORE BECAUSE ITACHI'S CHARACTER CHANGED. YES, I KNOW THAT. I DON'T CARE. THIS IS HOW I WROTE ITACHI 2 YEARS AGO. KTHNXBAI.

Haruno Sakura

This is Haruno Sakura. She's been devoted to Uchiha Sasuke ever since she was a child and has a very strong connection with him, even professing her love for him. Although it's unrequited love, it's fair to say that Sakura is still not quite over him, even though he left years ago.

Sakura loves Sasuke. She's a medic ninja, and she's powerful; don't underestimate her abilities!

Uchiha Itachi

Uchiha Itachi; one of the many enigmatic characters of Naruto.

All we know about him is that he's a sadistic bastard who presumably killed his entire clan bar Sasuke [although a lot of fans have their own opinions about this, let's just keep this in mind]. He joined the organization Akatsuki several years ago and is an S-Class missing criminal.

Itachi is cold, calculating and will do everything for power.

RANT:

Meeting:

Itachi & Sakura have met once. In a manga chapter during the Gaara arc after the timeskip. Yes, that's it, only once.

Itachi never spoke a word to Sakura, nor did Sakura say anything to Itachi. The only thing about Itachi that she remembers is that he's the man Sasuke wants to kill and that Itachi is the man who murdered Sasuke's family and forced Sasuke to go all angsty on us.

They have not met ever since.

Fanfiction:

Truth be said, most people believe that there aren't many options you have with ItaSaku stories. Five actually and ironically enough, they are the most cliche storylines:

1. Itachi never betrayed the clan and is still living with the Uchiha clan.
2. Sakura leaves Konoha for Sasuke, Itachi finds Sakura and takes her with him as a hostage to lure Naruto.
3. Sakura and her other teammates get the order to hunt Akatsuki down, Sakura meets Itachi.
4. Alternate timeline as in divertion from the storyline, such as Sakura leaving with Itachi once she met him in the manga chapter.
5. Alternate Universe (and for the love of me, I cannot understand why everybody thinks AU means Highschool fictions.)

There are few other options, but hardly none. In Konoha, Itachi risks the danger of being caught. The only way of Sakura and Itachi building a relationship would be outside of Konoha, which seems almost impossible.

So these limited choices for the usual plots have been proven as an obstacle. But, unfortunately, rather than to perk the author's attention with these obstacles, people tend to go for the obvious plots [points at the five options above]. Then, the characters slowly turn OOC or the story turns into a plot which makes you say "been there, done that."

That's seriously not a good thing.

In every essay there is, a few points are stressed and one of them, which is potentially the biggest factor that needs to discussed is originality.

Granted, most of us start out with the plots mentioned above. I know I did when it came to Metamorphosis, how else was Sakura going to meet up with Itachi and fall in love with him? So, I took the easy route, Sakura left Konoha, went to search for Sasuke, stumbled upon Itachi and is taken along.

Halfway through, I started remembering the essays I had read about writing fanfiction. Is it all right to go with the flow and do a similar story like others had done before, or could I possibly divert from all of this and make up an original story line. If Sakura is in Itachi's grasp, it's not game over, not by a long shot.

In the original story line, Sakura will fight for Sasuke. She'll give up her life for him if necessary. Sakura will fight until she's either dead or away from Itachi at any rate. She'll probably be scared of him, but Sakura's will is strong. Never underestimate this point.

All authors wish for a few things. Some want to get reviews and improve themselves, some want people to read it and that's enough for them, some want to be published writers someday, but regardless of what you're trying to do when writing, have fun in writing and try to be as original as possible. Those are the most important points.

Sex:

The majority of the ItaSaku, let's be honest, is based on sex.

We have fictions where Sakura is under Itachi's control and he makes her his pet, or where she's blatantly raped by Itachi, stories where Sasuke is Sakura's husband and she sleeps with Itachi, stories where Sakura is drunk and sleeps with Itachi... You name it, the ItaSaku fandom has got it.

Okay.

Again, refreshing your memory, this is for stories that want to be believable and somewhat canon. In fanfictions, everything can happen, I understand that. They can have sex like bunnies, and Sasuke can watch quietly, but we're not talking about stories like those at the moment.

Canon!Sakura hates Itachi. She hates him for everything he's done to Sasuke. She probably hates him for trying to steal away Naruto as well. Along with Orochimaru and some others, I think it's safe for us to assume that Sakura, truly despises Itachi.

Canon!Itachi is anti-social. He grew up in a cold house where he was expected to excel and become the best ninja in his clan, if not the best ninja of Konoha. He is incredibly polite to everybody but Sasuke, which indicates that he was raised well. Itachi is a sadist. He likes to torture Sasuke and seems to have quite some fun when torturing Kakashi. Is Itachi the raping type of guy? Maybe; most probably not. If you'd ask me why, I'd tell you to find some analyses about rapists and compare them to Itachi. He might fit on a few points, but he won't fit on most.

Bottom line; Sakura and Itachi would never sleep with each other in the canon storyline. This is a fact. Neither one is interested in each other.

ItaSaku fanfictions should be calmly build up if you'd like them to be somewhat canon. They will not accept each other at first and it'll take a long time before they'll even start liking each other. Itachi and Sakura having sex in the first chapters is highly unlikeable [unless you're writing AU or a story where they're together already].

Give them time to get used to each other, to like one another and when the time is ripe, they can sleep with each other. At least, that's my advice.

OOC-ness

Every fanfiction has OOC-characters in them. When writing ItaSaku, Itachi will be extremely OOC, and so will Sakura. It's a crack-pairing.

However, one can try to stay true to their personalities and characteristics.

In many stories, Sakura has just fallen out of love with Sasuke. This can happen, but give us an explanation. Is it because she realized that he might never return her affection? Is it because she never really loved him in the first place, as opposed to what the anime/manga is trying to tell us?

As described in the tips, Sakura is a spirited, strong young woman, with a fierce personality that makes her loyal to friends, and she loves Sasuke very deeply. She has to love him deeply or she'd never have offered him to go to Orochimaru.

Will she fall in love with Itachi instantly? No. Will she think he's attractive even though his actions disgust her? Maybe.

Will Itachi fall for her? This is the big crux. Maybe, probably not. He's a heartless killer who thinks emotions make one weak. He'll think Sakura is weak, so make sure to incorporate that into the story. It doesn't matter how strong Sakura is, it's the emotions that will make her weak in Itachi's eyes.

Itachi is cruel, ruthless, cold, un-caring, calculating and cares about no-one except himself [although ItaSasu fans might disagree with me, haha].

Sakura is a cheery, intelligent, warm person and does everything she can to protect the ones she loves.

Whatever you do, don't forget those traits. Fanfiction is there to alter them, and shape them into characters that can love each other whilst it's completely impossible in canon, but keep her Sakura and keep him Itachi. They're already beautiful characters made by Kishimoto, don't re-write them, edit them.

Unlikely/Impossible scenarios

This is all according to me, feel free to discard this list.

- Itachi will never sacrifice his life for Sakura.
- Itachi will never admit to loving Sakura.
- Itachi will never pick Sakura above Akatsuki. Power is everything to him.
- Itachi will never be redeemed. He is a clan-killer and will be just that until he dies.
- Itachi will never be kind-hearted, warm or dance around with bunnies.

- Sakura will never sacrifice Sasuke for Itachi.
- Sakura will never accept being Itachi's hostage.
- Sakura will never stop fighting against Itachi.
- Sakura will never stop having conflicted emotions.
- Sakura will never give up on Sasuke without a solid reason.

And now for the tips and stuff. These are just listings of the common traits of both Itachi and Sakura, paired with a few tips that will make your writing experience somewhat better and more fun.

Tips to keep Itachi IC (in Character):

- Make him cold, ruthless and calculating
- Keep him as polite as possible, Itachi knows his manners
- Itachi is not a savage beast, he's not the type to rape girls around
- Even after initial feelings for Itachi, abid by the first three things I gave you
- Never make Itachi sacrifice his life for Sakura; it's OOC to no end.
- Itachi values his own life more than other lifes. In a life-threatening situation, Itachi would make sure that he comes out alive before even risking anything to save Sakura.
- Itachi is strong <- important point. Many of you underestimate this guy. He is not weaker than Oro.

Tips to keep Sakura IC (in character):

- Make her warm, intelligent and strong
- Sakura is not a slut, don't let her sleep with Itachi during the first meeting
- Sakura despises Itachi for what he's done to Sasuke, don't forget that
- Sakura should be afraid of Itachi. He's much stronger than her and let's not forget that Sakura actuallt values her life.
- Sakura would never betray Naruto by helping Itachi to get him
- Sakura LOVES Sasuke. Either work with her feelings or make sure you tell us why she's stopped loving him
- Sakura would NEVER join Akatsuki voluntarily. Akatsuki hunts Jinchuuriki. Big no-no since Naruto is her best friend

Tips for their relationship:

- Make their relationship angsty or romantic/angsty. Romantic as in fluffy all the time is a big no-no for ItaSaku.
- Do not make Sakura forget about Sasuke. Her loyalty for Sasuke should still be visible in your story
- For Christ sake, stop making Sasuke magically fall in love with Sakura in order to create ItaSasuSaku
- Stop doing the hostage versus mean Akatsuki-thing. It's irritating and un-original. If you do insist on doing the hostage thing, make sure Sakura breaks free from it or something.

Again, these three things are all the guidelines for my fiction. You can stray away from them or use other standards. This is just how I view Itachi, Sakura and their relationship.

Tips for writing better fanfictions:

- Get a beta. Beta-readers are your best friends. Make sure the beta is a NATIVE English person who is utterly neurotic about grammar and can pick out those small, irritating mistakes.
- Try to keep the descriptions low key. It's horrendous to read through huge chapters filled with descriptions and hardly any conversation
- At all costs, try to keep the characters in character. Nothing irks writers more than out of character Itachis and Sakuras having sex like rabbits.
- Do not - I repeat - do NOT insert OC's falling in love with Sakura or Itachi. If it's ItaSaku, it's ItaSaku. Make it a love triangle if you feel like it but please, NO ItaSakuOC.
- Have FUN in writing. Don't write if you don't feel like it because it will always show in your writing.
- Don't stretch the story. If you run out of ideas or feel that your plot is running thin, try to end it as soon and as best as possible. There are a lot of good fictions out there which started spectacular but the authors tried to stretch them and they ended up lousy. Don't allow your fic to be the same.

Wow, so that was a huge rant (it took be 2 hours to type it all). Remember that I'm just trying to help all of you and not trying to assault you guys.

Hope this was a bit helpful! You can always comment if you have any questions

^^;; it was indeed helpful, I'll keep this in memories...so I can refer to; whenever my plot bunnies comes back to me... Till' now I am still stuck in Chapter 1 -_-();; and Sakura fainted in shock after seeing Itachi -_-();; haven't said what Itachi will do to her yet ^^;;

=_=
Haha, yes, after the Sasuke & Naruto kiss, right?
Buahaha, of course!

... won't post it... Naaah (A)
I couldn't have said it better myself ^_^. I agree with all your points. I think this is something every ItaSaku writer should read and keep in mind. Some of the fics of this coupling seem to be OOC or contain the same concept and it's becomes frustrating to the reader at least me XD. There are bad fics in all fandom, not just this one but ItaSaku seems to have more of it's fair share *is shot*. I understand seeing as how this coupling is difficult to write about but once you get the elements right it can be great *nods*. Gah! I won't stress the points you brought up because I feel there's no need I'm tempted to though @_@. However I do want to say that it is important that they write and maintain Sakura and Itachi in character along with certain qualities/traits they possess. And just make their relationship realistic as realistic as you can in terms of how both of them would really act when they are involved in romantic relationship. No more no less. I wish every ItaSaku writer luck *smilesmile* and ask them to spread Mi-chan's gospel of ItaSaku XD.
lol, exactly. I can't help but feel disappointed when I read the next darn ItaSaku which is based on sex & OOC-ness, rather than an IC Itachi & Sakura who try to come to terms with their feelings. It irks me.

The reason why ItaSaku has more bad fics is just because a lot of writers are lazy, instead of really trying to think about the characters. Perhaps I'm putting too much effort in trying to read Itachi, but at least I'm satisfied over Evolution.

You can always stress out points! The more people who agree with this, the better!
I will try and bear this in mind...

*bows head guiltily*

*is guilty of allowing Sakura to join Akatsuki (for a month only, as repayment, but still...)*
It's for repayment? As long as she didn't join voluntarily, there's no problem with that. I should have said "Don't let Sakura join Akatsuki voluntarily".

Don't feel the need to feel guilty, this was just a memory-support of the things that bug most readers, it's not directions how you - as a person - should write your story. ^^
Ow XD

Dear, this post was really amazing! I couldn't explain better all mistakes around Ita x Saku pairing at most of fanfictions at ff.net. I hate oocness and I read lots of fanfictions with great ideas that became crap later because people paid no attention in character features.

So, congratulations for your Ita x Saku 'fanfictions tutorial', I hope to find better Ita x Saku fanfictions at future xd

kissus

Artis
Haha thank you ^^

I was reading another crappy fiction about Itachi & Sakura and it just snapped inside of me. So I started writing this rant. I'm actually happy I did, it feels liberating to share my opinion.

I'm hoping for better ItaSaku's in the future as well. Thanks for commenting!

(Anonymous)

anyway. your stories rock.
Heh, thanks ^^;
Sorry [laughs]

I just got pissed off by the amount of ItaSaku sex fics -_-

(Anonymous)

That's It! After I have read this and your fanfics, I'm now a big fan of yours. It's sad though, I won't be able to use the computer anytime soon. Which means no fanfics. :( I wish summer lasts longer. Wait! this isn't what I'm supposed to talk abouy! sorry bout that. Oh Yeah! If you don't know me I'm the girl that gave you the Lee/Gai pose. (^-^)
Thank you ^^

Aww, poor you :(
I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!!! Yeah right like I'm that psycho.

I do agree with you on many levels. And this might turn out to be a long post. And I get where you're going with the too much sex base ItaSaku fics that are out there. I know I'm guilty of reading them and encouraging some of the older ItaSaku writers to write them. But also you have to realize that some if not many ItaSaku fics are written for fun. And that also goes for the ones that are not sex based. And those ones are usually small fics maybe just a few chapters or just a one-shot where not much development can happen. But the one thing that I can say that I do hate about sex-base fanfictions in general, not just ItaSaku, is the ones written by an underage writer.

But as I see it your advise/points/rant applies more to the full-fledged, novel-like fanfictions than it does to a drabble. Even though some drabbles writers can learn from this as well. And I'm going to say this now before I go into and dissect your post.

I'm not an elitist nor do I wish to be stamped as one.
No offense but that's an elitist's argument. I refrained from calling you 'dearie' in that sentence. I'm not going to label you as one cause I've seen worst. If you left that statement and just said something like "I'm an ItaSaku writer and I'm sick of all those bad ItaSaku fanfictions that are out and here's why." Then we can just move on. Simply as that. Just making that statement can just bring too attention to.

Note or Eye catch or what you like to call it: To prevent the "It takes one to know one." argument. Anglia_Kitty is an on and off beta-reader, perfectionist but lax and elitist only when she feels like she should be. And she's not afraid to admit it. End of argument.

Moving on with dissecting/analyzing your post.

Characters
I don't have much to say at this part because I agree with it. XD

Meeting
So true. They only meant once and didn't say one word to each other.

Fanfiction
Oh not totally true. There is more options, it just depends if the writer is creative enough to figure out new options themselves. The ones you list just happened to be more common.
And #2 is more fitting with #4 don't you agree. And no one lives that happily.

Actually there are more ways than just that one for them to meet. And that doesn't fall under the three four other options that you have listed. It just depends how creative the writer is.

And since I, I'll admit it, have not read your fanfics as of yet to say if you have truly broken free from the endless cycle.

As for the fics that you say are the best ItaSaku in your opinion.....I won't say much since it is opinion. But I can say haven't read Poisoned Cherry Blossom even though I was about to at one point but haven't gotten around to it. Hindsight's 20/20 I have read it but not all of it since I was reading it when she was still writing it. And I'm not really fan of it. It’s interesting but….hmm I just didn’t feel it was all that great. I guess I’m just hard to please.

Take two.

And my ass long comment had to be broken into two parts. Here is the second half.

Sex
I already said something about this. I don't need to repeat myself. But I do agree on that ItaSaku a good chance for good character development. But I think you should add that if sex is involved don't let it overwhelmed the story.

OOC-ness
LOL OOC-ness sometimes it's unavoidable when you want to avoid it especially if it's AU. But sometimes that's just laziness. Overly OOC-ness I don't like. A little slip of OOC can be forgiven at times. If it's done on purpose then it's a comedy/parade.

Tips to keep Itachi IC
1. *nods*
2. Yes he does.
3. THANK YOU!!! He's not a rapist. Get it right people!
4. .....*nothing to say*
5. Agreed.
6. That goes with #5 too. If Sakura was of some great value to Itachi then it's questionable if him would. But I don't think he would underestimate her abilities to get herself out. So yes I agree.
7. Yes he is. Also he doesn't all of his cards in a single battle.

Tips to keep Sakura IC
1. True
2. Absolutely not. She becomes a Mary Sue!Sakura after that.
3. Yup.
4. Yes she does value her life. But if needed to be she won't show her fear and put her life on the line. Remember her battle with Sasori.
5. Nope she won't.
6. Yes.
7. Don't voluntarily anyway.

Tips for their relationship
1. ItaSaku is angst. Unless the writer can convince other wise but it will always have some form of angst no matter what. Even SasuSaku can be angsty with the way Sasuke's acting now but it won't be as much as ItaSaku.
2. Even if doesn't seem like it in the story. Still have the hint that she is.
3. LOL Agreed.
4. Or have someone else do the hostage/kidnapped bit instead of the Akatsuki.

Tips for writing better fanfictions
1. *waves hands in the air* I'm a beta!! Beta-readers can also be your worst enemy, beside yourself, when it comes to criticism. But they are doing it for your own good. So take it and learn from it. I told one girl who was writing a song fic for ItaSaku also it was an AU and I was her beta. The story didn't fit with the song. I love the song and know it very well. But the story she wrote was good in the beginning but ended badly. I told her flat out what I thought. Take the criticism people. Beta-readers can also writers too you know.
2. That depends on the writer. Some writers are very descriptive well others are not. But checking now and then to see what is unnecessary information. Ask the beta to help with this.
3. LOL
4. OCs are meant to be side characters not main characters. And many of them turn out to be Mary Sues which is a big no no.
5. So true.
6. That happens a lot.

You made a lot of good points with this and I’m glad to see that. And I’m going to friend you for the reason that you’re a good person to bounce ideas at and get good feedback in return. I’m sorry that this comment is as long as it is but I had too. Thanks for reading and I’ll try to get around to reading your stories.

about the rant

This is one hell of a helpful tip... I must say that you did getthe facts right and I also know some of the ItaSaku fics that just revolve around sex and nothing more!

I'm guilty for the OOCness, but I never write about them in sexual situations...

It's true though... sometimes the hardest thing abut the ItaSaku thing is that you always have to keep in mind their character and how would you use them to your advantage to get the desired result. I agree that most readers tend to overlook this and I do too... why because I didn't know anything about Itachi except he was a killer and Sasuke's brother -- --; And that was a big downfall for me...

Anyways, when I do get to create aother ItaSaku fanfic, I'l have this in mind and hopefully, get the best result I can achieve for myself and for the readers... hehe...

Re: about the rant

You're welcome ^^

One other HUGE misconception about Itachi's character [generally by people who don't and DO know him] is that they think that Killer + Sadist equals Rapist. So wrong. I just had to throw that in.

Hmm.. I myself am not someone who writes with characters if I haven't completely analyzed the character. Perhaps I'm just neurotic like that, but I like to keep the characters in character ^^
Hi! (Don't know if you remember me, I'm Claudia from Mexico)

Wow that was great! I agree with you in almost everything. I just think that there are fics that have OOC or sex and they're still good, tough I don't like when they have sex in all the chapters ¬¬ it's tyring and I want to read more plot.
About you tutorial, THANK YOU!!! I've been wanting to write an Ita X Saku but I didn't know how and with this advices you've iluminated my path hahaha.
I added you as a friend, hope you don't mind ^^U
I remember you ^^

I agree with the sex-plots. It's just un-original and blatantly speaking, very annoying. [sighs]. I like the plot-written fictions more personally ;D

And I'm glad the tutorial was useful!

No problem, add away ^^

(Anonymous)

Dude, I love you! I heartily agree with everything said! I'm too modest, though, to say what you've said ^^; Thanks for doing the ItaSaku pairing some justice! Your rant/critique is much loved!!!!
Aw thanks ^^

itasaku

I really like what you said. The sex gets boring and the OOC-ness drives me up the wall. I just wrote three chapters of an Itasaku thing and i'm TRYING to be all deviant-ish about it. I've seen a couple of episodes and NONE with Itachi, which I KNOW is suicide. I only have what I've picked up reading: general opinions. So far the reviews say I have him pegged but...iono...I feel like i'm trying to walk on one peg-leg >_< (flails around). Anyways, i have come seeking opinions! For fanfiction.net, my user is beadlety aswell. Also, how the deuce does one even FIND a beta reader??

Re: itasaku

Oh dear lord, I can't believe I forgot this comment. So sorry.

Anyway, there's a community on livejournal that you can try? It's called "naruto_betas" and there are a lot of useful people there as well.

Otherwise, I'd recommend asking in an author note of your fiction for a good, native English beta reader. They're out there, trust me.
T_T I love you.

You are my favorite ItaSaku writer, and I just happend to come across this, and this made me so happy.
Thank you, and I'm glad I was able to brighten your day somewhat. ♥

Beta

Where did you get your beta? She/he is good at editing...i just want you to give me some tips because i finished a chapter and i need someone to edit my writing.

Do i just post my story first and then ask for a beta later?

i need help! it's the first time i writes a story and i really want it to be good.

i'm a big fan of your writing! it's not a bit OCC (rare)and thank you for telling us tips about writing ItaSaku fanfics.

PS:(i know this isn't the point but)UPDATE! on SALVATION! plzplzplzplz

Re: Beta

I found Stem by a lucky stroke. I asked in the final chapter of Metamorphosis for a good, native English beta-reader and she popped up on the possible candidates list. Afterwards, I picked her out of a huge bunch of people that wanted to beta as well :P

Just post your story and ask for a beta later on, I assure you, they'll pop up sooner or later ^^

I think you mean OOC [chuckles]. Why thank you so much for the compliments haha. And I'm glad you found the tips useful. Question though, were you the one who reviewed my story and asked me why I preferred PCB over Loophole? Just wondering since you and the reviewer made the same mistake with OCC.

And I'm on hiatus for a month now ^^ I'll be updating Salvation around the end of August.

dont u think if the world based on the choices u think r avaliable for itasaku, everything would be EXETREMLT cliched?

i mean i think originality makes a fic gud and if everyone based their fics on the same plot, i dont think it would work. even if the events they thought of for their fics r different, im sure they're similar since they revolve around the same plot?

u also said AU is possible... in an AU sory most authors make their char. very occ, and its easy to do that since there arent any boundary lines.
if i follow ur guidelines in picking fanfics i end up seeing ur fanfics populating the list -___-

pls consider how there r many itasaku's out there and many gud plots hav been taken by authors who discontinue their fic -__- which really do annoyme. when summaries even com close to another story authors usually start bitching and complaining about how they copied and stuff... the possibilites u gave r taken except AU(limitless), many ppl chose to write fics that ARENT au becasue they lik the setting of naruto and they want to be original as well... so in result u get wat u called 'bad itasakus'

no im not saying everyhting u typed up is wrong but i do find some points a bit werid but i do agree on the sex part. it overall is a pretty gud argument. alot of ppl agree wit everything u say becasue they think ur a GOD author on FF.NET, i think ur a great writer as well but i really dont think this essay was very convincing... srry.

Reniko
Wow, I felt extremely insulted while reading this.

Firstly, I am encouraging other writers to come up with original plots. I think you've misread that part. I'm saying that there are four cliche storylines that a lot of ItaSaku follow, and I'm trying to stimulate others to write things other than the usual plots. So what you just said didn't make much sense.

Secondly, AU is very much possible as long as the author puts everybody plausible down. Hindsight's 20/20 is a perfect example of this. And why on earth would you see my fanfics populating the list? With what *guidelines*? The only *guideline* I see in here is the one that I'm trying to set her for future ItaSaku authors which is:

1. Make the characters plausible
2. Come up with an original plotline.

I'm not directing people to pick out specific fictions here, I'm trying to help people create fictions and I think you might have misread that. Nonetheless, I still feel a tad insulted.

Also, I NEVER said that I find all ItaSaku's in the Naruto universe bad. And I have NO idea what made you interpret that. I plainly said that a lot of fictions in the ItaSaku fandom are based on sex and sex alone, which is a shame since there's so much you can do with ItaSaku.

I'm not opposed to people critizing my essay here since it's my opinion and I like to discuss the entire matter, but none of your arguments made sense in my eyes and to be honest, it seemed more like a personal attack on my taste in fictions rather than a crit on my essay.

-- MitsukiShiroi
thnx for friending me! i really love your writing! ^^
No problem at all, I love to be friended :P

that's a good one

Finally there is SOMEONE who agrees that Sakura and Itachi do not have to have sex like bunnies! Your writing is amazing! There are so many bad ItaSaku fanfics out there. Sometimes the author just puts no thought into what they write (Not to be mean to any ItaSaku writers out there) . I don't have an urge to write fanfictions during the school year, and I've never written an ItaSaku fanfic before, but if I ever decide to write one I'll keep your tips in mind.
Wow. I actually really enjoyed reading that.

It's great to know that someone else shares the same idea as me. I've never written an ItaSaku simply because I believe it will be a GREAT challenge(which gives you all the more reason to write one) but I haven't fully grasp the concept of Itachi's character. I mean sure, I know the basis of it and whatever I'm able to pull from the surface but I'd prefer to understand a character down to the very core--in this case Itachi.

- Make him cold, ruthless and calculating
- Keep him as polite as possible, Itachi knows his manners

This is what I think throws people off the most. They make him cold, detached, ruthless etc. but they don't make him polite. I've realized after watching him that he is very polite (well to an extent and to certain people which does not include Sasuke). I'm glad I'm not the only one who has realized this--though I'm sure others have too.

I think your essay has helped me quite a bit but I won't be attempting to write an ItaSaku for awhile. I'm not sure if I ever will, but thanks. This is really helpful.

- . -U i agree with you in everything that you just said. It's fun when you read stories where the characters are not OC but fanfiction is called FANFICTION, not fan-ORIGINAL-fiction so i guess it all depends on the writer. I like your stories and it's fun trying to keep the characters in-character but people who write in fanfiction.net write whatever they feel like to make it so that the characters that they love would just mold together. Just thought i'd say how i feel ^ . ^

Anyways, I hope you update Momento! It's really interesting, keep up the good work! (TT . TT im sad ure going to stop writing but at least ure going to finish teh fics that u started! That, i'm greatful for! Oh and thanks for the tips, I'll try and use them. ^ . ^)

whooo did i rant....looks like it, uh oh

well i agree with most of what you said its true

but i dont find your argument that convincing, you back track alot. If you have got somthing to say then say it and worry about reaction later.

Personally i didnt find hindisght or poisoned cherry blossom that great and I read ALOT of ita/saku both good and bad. So should i base my opinion on this rant based on the fact that i think you picked stories that werent that great? No

Heres what we have to remember....everything you just said is an OPINION. Opinions are like farts everyone has one but that dosnt mean the whole room has to enjoy it. If you can factually say that everything you just said absoloutly makes a better ita saku story then i would say great but it dosnt. You left in alot of qualifiers like 'creativity' or 'based on the author'.

While i dont think it is contained to just the younger authors many of them are written by people who are young and they get lazy or they just dont know HOW to write somthing good. We shouldnt dig on them cause their trying no matter how much it pisses you off. Leave a critique or dont and move on. Their sad little story will fade away after they get alot of critiques or no reviews.

Also someone suggested this to me after i left a critique on her story and i just have to say that she did not listen to a DAMN thing you said. She just took all the foam off the surface and sprinkled it over her story and congratulated herself for a job well done. So you think you get through to people but sometimes it back fires i guess :D

Anyways im not ragging on you i just think you should look at it from a different POV. Not every one is right or wrong, not everyones opinions are great, and not every story we think is great or terrible really is.

Re: whooo did i rant....looks like it, uh oh

Hey ^^

Wel, let me quote the first paragraph again ;D:

So, here's one gigantic essay about how to write a decent fanfiction about Itachi and Sakura, which doesn't revolve around sex. Remember that this is just my opinion on things, and that I don't find every ItaSaku bad, but a lot of them are in my eyes.

So basically I already said that most of what I've written is my opinion and my takes on the ItaSaku fandom and it's fictions. Hindsights and PCB are both my favorite ItaSakus and I've also stated that it's just my humble opinion that I find these two the best ItaSakus in the fandom.

Anyway, the pointers that I was trying to hit for gaining a better grip on ItaSaku was the points for the characters, the most important keywords that are associated to both Itachi and Sakura. Also, to get a beta since they are still a writer's best friend. ^^

Which story were you referring to? I'd like to read it and see how it turned out :P

Anyway, thanks for telling me your opinion on this, I appreciate it ^^
This was great, really helpful! I'm not much of an ItaSaku reader, because they're so angsty, but I adore the pairing. And I've read a few majorly OOC and cliched stories...

But anyways, this has helped me figure out how to write an ItaSaku oneshot (though it'll still suck... hopefully not as much?)

You're awesome. I think every writer (not just ItaSaku ones) should read this, you make a lot of good points.

Nice Work!

I want to say that I agree with what you wrote. Although I'm not ashamed in the slightest when I say I'll pretty much read anything that's ItachiSakura as long as the characters aren't in each other's face five seconds into the chapter. And you never know! ^^ Some people may use the same idea over and over again, but alot of people make it seem good, so even if it happens again, it just might be worth your time.

As far as writing ItachiSakura goes, I'm writing a story called "Unfortunate Circumstances". The pairing is ItachiSakuraKisame. I've made Sakura choose Kakashi over Sasuke, though she still has some feelings for him that will gain more focus later on in the story. I've only posted three chapters so far and I've considerably shortened the chapters in length from thirty or so pages to less than seventeen, probably around eleven.

Sakura is tricked into going to a village where the Akatsuki have plans to make a deal with her regarding her medical skills, though they really don't need her for them. Itachi only says they do. I've given him more personality, however, though not in the sense of more emotions, just more expression on his cruelty and sadistic manipulating traits. The plan is something I've never seen anyone use and I doubt it since not many people bother to create a full blown story out of a single sentence on something that doesn't mean much.

But I like Kisame and I've authored a KisameSakura story called "Apple Blossom Tea". I wanted to try at ItachiSakura but I wanted Kisame in there since no one makes him out to be how he really is. From what I've read, he's actually the most polite and the calmest out of everyone from the Akatsuki. And Itachi does strike me as someone who would act sadistic without any clues. The look he gave Kakashi in the anime when they fought led me to that conclusion.

I would appreciate it greatly if you would read some of my ItachiSakuraKisame story and give me some feedback on what I can do to make it better. Though I will warn you I may not change as much as you tell me -you yourself know how difficult it is to come up with an idea for ItaSaku that works and is original- I'd appreciate it more than you could imagine. ^^

There's the link, and thanks again for posting this essay. It'll definitely filter out a lot of stories, even if some of them are mostly written for fun. Till later!
